Seven Teams Claim Titles At
The 2001 USA Hockey InLine Cup
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - (Sept. 23, 2001) - Teams claimed titles in seven different
divisions today as action concluded at the 2001 USA Hockey InLine Cup.
In the first men's championship game, Team Mission Hyper (Calif.) edged Team
Labeda-Tour (Calif.) in an intense 7-6 shootout decision for the Division I
title. All-Tournament Team selection and former USA Hockey InLine National Team
member Rob Laurie (Lansing, Mich.) of Team Mission Hyper turned aside all
shootout attempts to earn the win in net. In the Division II final, the Slip
Jacks (Calif.) knocked off the Bend Bullets (Ore.), 7-5, to earn their second
straight USA Hockey InLine Cup crown. The California-based Team Pro skated away
with an 8-5 victory against the Albuquerque Diamondbacks (N.M.) and the Division
III title. Finally, the Danny O's from New York City rallied from an 0-3
preliminary round record to shutout the TUF Terror (Calif.), 4-0, and capture
the Division IV Championship.
In women's
action, Team Easton (Calif.) blanked the Hyper Dry Ice (Calif.), 8-0, for the
Division I title, while the Buffalo Wings (N.Y.) captured the Division II crown
with a 12-2 win against the BBG's (Calif.).
In the Master's 30-and-Over Division, the Savannah Super Goose (S.C.) edged the
home team Crystal Palace (Nev.) by a score of 3-2 to claim the championship.
"We've
come to this tournament several times, and it's always a great event," said
All-Tournament Team selection Gerry St. Cyr of Team Mission Hyper.
Established in
1997, the USA Hockey InLine Cup was designed to provide national-level
competition for adult players of all skill levels. This year, 52 teams and over
600 players representing 16 U.S. states and Canada competed for titles.
