The homecoming football game is always the game everyone goes to. The parking lots are jam-packed; it’s impossible to find a close spot unless you plan on getting there two hours before the game starts. The stands are packed in a way they never are for the normal games; everyone wants to come out and support the team and hang out with their friends while simultaneously watching the game.

When you've heard all the fall sports captains at the pep rally telling you to come out and support them at their next meet/competition/game/match, don’t just ignore them! Go and bring all your Novi spirit and friends; make a student section the team can be proud of.

If you don’t think the student section makes a difference, it does. One of my favorite memories from my senior year swim season was our Novi vs. Northville meet, when the stands were packed with students, the air was thick with tension and everyone was cheering and screaming. The energy level was so high from the student section, it made us all the more excited to swim the meet and do our best to try to beat our rivals. That was the only time we've ever had a big group of students come to our meets who weren't obligated to come (siblings, boyfriends, etc.).

So even though spirit week is over and it isn't socially acceptable to walk around decked out in green tights, spray painted hair and knee socks anymore, don’t lose that spirit! Channel all that excess pep rally, homecoming game, homecoming dance spirit that wasn't used up during homecoming week and spread that great feeling to other sports teams.

It’s so easy to get into the game and even if you aren't sure what’s going on at first, you’ll be sure to learn the rules once the game is over.

So instead of going to just the one football game a year, check out some other sporting events and go support them too. Round up some friends and it’ll be just as much fun as going to a football game.
