January 2012
Cherish every moment and keep your friends and family close. When
tragedy stuck in the
house fire on January 10th on
Wintergreen Circle, Novi came together and supported the family.
Most did not know whose house it was or even what was happening.
But that didn’t matter. Even though most of Novi didn’t know
who’s life had been destroyed with a single event, they put out
their love and prayers to them. The students who did see it posted
pictures and prayers on Twitter and Facebook, letting everyone else
know to keep that family in their thoughts. Those who hadn’t seen it
first hand heard about it on Twitter or Facebook and word spread
quickly.
Students started posting things like “My heart goes out to the
family who lost their home tonight” and “You never know what you can
come home to. Always be thankful and never pass up the opportunity
to tell someone you love and care about them.”
Novi came together with this event. It was horrible, but it
showed us what we could do when we all put our hearts into a common
cause. By the next morning, almost everyone knew about it and was
sending prayers to hope for the critically-injured resident.
Some people complain about Novi and how we’re not really a
community. But I disagree. After that fire, it really showed that we
are in fact a community. There were people praying for someone they
didn’t even know and students were abuzz about the topic the next
day at school. Everyone was worrying about what happened, expressing
their sorrows and lamenting on how awful it was.
With all of the tweets and status’ posted, there were a few that
really stuck out to me. And those were the ones telling us to
appreciate everything you have and to keep your friends and family
close.
And they’re true. You should do all of that, but not just because
tragedy struck one family. You never know what’s going to happen, so
live life to the fullest and enjoy it. You only live once and these
are the four years when you should be figuring out who you’re going
to be.
The fire was a tragedy and we all hope nothing like this ever
happens again. But the truth is, it probably will. So as a
community, Novi needs to bond together and help those suffering from
events like these to get through it.
