Between school and swim, I have absolutely no time to myself.
What with all the homework, practices, meets, team dinners and late
nights for the Wildcat Roar, I hardly have adequate time to sleep,
let alone finish all of my homework at a decent hour. Then, after
staying up until the early hours of the morning, I have to get up at
5 for morning practice.
It’s not that I don’t love spending all my time here at school
with my friends, I do, but a girl needs some time to herself every
once and a while. Staying after school and blasting music in the
journalism lab while we eat and work on trying to finish up last
minute details is fun, but add that with swim practice and meets, I
am officially overwhelmed at times.
But a good thing out of all the things I do is all the people I
get to meet. The people in my classes that seem nice may end up
being a swimmer, or in a club or another extracurricular.
A lot of my good friends I met doing sports or clubs, and most of
them are the people I look forward to seeing every day, the ones I
wave to in the halls, and the ones I hope to keep in touch with the
rest of my life.
Knowing people in your classes makes the school day go by a lot
faster, and the best way to meet people is to talk. Talk to the cute
guy who sits next to you in AP biology and is also in your math
class. You never know who could make a good friend or if something
more may come out of it.
So I guess what I’m trying to say is: get involved and meet
people. You’ll be here with your class for four years so you might
as well have fun while you’re at it. Your high school career may be
hectic and busy, but the friends you’ll make and the experience you
gain will be well worth it.
