S.S. Senior Year

February 16, 2011

Second semester is already in full swing, and seniors are well on their way down the path towards graduation.

There are so many things to do, and yet, it seems like there is no time to do it. Like mailing in deposits to save a place at your college of choice for next year, and trying to find the right person to room with, it can be crazy stressful.

I know exactly how it feels. I mailed in my deposit for Central Michigan three weeks ago, and have been talking to a few people on Facebook about being roommates, but it’s still a little nerve-racking not meeting the person face-to-face before confirming that you are going to room together.

My suggestions for making it a little less stressful is to talk to people you think you might have a lot in common with. Get to know them through Facebook messages, and when you think you could room with them, set up a time where you and your parents can meet them and their parents. Going in blind doesn’t mean going in never meeting the person, it means going in not already having been friends with them for six years.

College is exciting to think about, what classes you are going to take freshman year, what sororities or fraternities you are going to try and join, it’s going to be so much fun! But we can’t mess it up.

We have a lot going for us in Novi, and getting to graduation is going to be harder than we think. Even though its second semester of senior year, we still have to keep our grades up, and stay involved. Just because colleges have already accepted you, doesn’t mean you get to slack on your grades, they are just as important now as they were all the other years of high school.

And speaking of important things to keep up with… There are so many things we get to do before we leave NHS, don’t be in such a hurry. There are still spring sports to be played and club meetings to go to. Plus, there’s still prom waiting for us at the end of April.

Second Semester Senior year, though only three weeks in, has been awesome so far; just make sure you enjoy it before running away to college.
