December Is
Upon Us
December 1, 2009
As the next few days come
upon us the holiday spirit will fill the air. This means
that November is over and December is here.
December brings a lot of
things like holiday cheer and cold weather. Great shopping
deals and snowball fights. But the worst thing that December
brings? Bad driving conditions and illness.
While many students at Novi
High School still don’t have their driver’s license, several
do. And those who do know that the snow can be very
difficult to drive in, and also very dangerous; those who
don’t drive know from watching others attempt to avoid the
hazardous ice.
Though we haven’t had our
first snow fall yet, when it comes all drivers need to be
ready. Making smart choices of where, when, and who you
drive with are going to be very important during this time
of year.
If you look outside and see
six inches of snow on the ground and a thick patch of ice in
your driveway, do your best to stay off the roads, unless it
is absolutely necessary.
Slippery roads and new
drivers are one of the scariest things for a parent, so it's
okay to be scared of driving in these conditions yourself,
in fact you should be a little nervous and definitely more
careful.
Another thing to be more
careful about this holiday season is illness. With all these
different viruses, colds, and flues going around be sure not
to share what you’ve got.
Everyone at Novi High knows
that there have been a handful of students and staff out
with the flu this year, but that doesn’t mean the germs left
with them.
Most cold and flu germs can
live up to forty-eight hours outside the human body, meaning
that if your biology lab partner left class early on Monday
the germs can still be there Tuesday, unless the area was
properly sanitized to kill off the germs.
Though these two issues
aren’t very relatable, they are very much a concern for all
Novi High students as well as staff.
So promise me this; if you
look outside and see six inches of snow on the ground, but
still want go out, let someone know exactly where you are
going, who you are going with, and how you are going to get
there. Call your parents when you get to your destination,
and when you leave.
One other thing I would like
you to promise me; if you start feeling under the weather,
talk to your parents so they can help you get better
quickly, and if you have a cough or need to sneeze, use your
elbow and be sure to wash your hands. |
