Novi .vs.
Northville -
the Spirit Rally
October 11, 2009
In the early morning hours of
Friday October 9th, 2009 several Novi and Northville
students gathered together for a spirit rally thrown by
Local 4 reporter
Lauren Podell and the WDIV
studio crew.
The rally was thrown for both
Novi and Northville students in Novi High School’s field
house gymnasium to celebrate winning the game of the week
contest. What that meant was that the great rivalry game
played between the two schools was highlighted on WDIV's
late evening newscast.
While student journalists and
reporters arrived at 5:00 a.m. to make the preparations
needed to move the rally indoors, other students started to
arrive about 5:30 so that the first live shot could take
place just after 6:00. (WOW! That’s early!)
During the time that Lauren
was at Novi High, there were six or so different live shots
straight from the field house. The live shots included
things such as students cheering on their team, live
interviews from the varsity football captains, a performance
by Novi High’s marching band, and a joint performance by the
Novi and Northville Pom-Pon teams between the shots.
While the game was exciting,
the Baseline Jug was taken home by the winning Northville
team. The Mustangs won the big game 14-8 in over time taking
the Jug away from the home it has had in Novi for the past
nine years.
The game was a real nail
bitter, but in the end when all the Novi and Northville
students came together, whether it was in the early morning
spirit of the WDIV rally or at the football game later that
night, it was all fun between the great rivals. But when
next year’s game comes around, it will be a bigger fight for
the Novi Wildcats to get the Baseline Jug back.
Although I’m disappointed
that we didn’t win the game, I am glad we all were able to
have a good time. Even though Northville invaded our house,
we were still able to have a good old fashioned sporting
rivalry. But next year, when we invade Northville’s house,
we will be victorious! |
