Sports -
Try It Out
August 30, 2009
Sports, they are on television, they are on the radio,
they are in the news paper, they are in books and magazines,
and they are at school. Sports figures can be our roll
models, enemies or just the people we get great
entertainment from.
Just like any other high school in Michigan, or even the
United States, we have sports teams; they range from field
hockey to golf to tennis to swimming to lacrosse to pom and
cheer. Our school has so many sports to choose from, but the
most difficult thing about sports may be choosing between
your two favorites.
For instance, sideline cheerleading and volleyball runs
at the same time. What do you do? Well, you have to decide
what you want to play more and what gives the best chance at
success. However, before you do that, you have to be sure
you are going to be on the team, and that is were try outs
come in.
Trying out for a sport can be hard and make you really
nervous, but it never hurts to try your hardest at what ever
you are doing. Even if you have never played the sport
before, and you just want to give it a try, giving it your
all will never hurt you. You need to practice at home and
can not assume you are going to do well when the time comes.
The best advice I can give to anyone trying out for a
sport, or is already on the team, is to make sure you are
ready to fully commit yourself to every practice and to be
at every game, because the worst teammate to have is a
non-committed one. Sometimes the non-committed athlete is
the first to complain about not getting playing time.
For example, say your best player really likes to spend
time with their friends instead of practice, but you really
need them so you can win your next game, but they don’t show
up. No one wants that to happen, so be sure to be committed
to what ever sport you are going to be playing whether it be
now, in the winter, or in the spring.
Another piece of advice I would like to offer you is to
always be supportive of your game and of your team. Coaches
really notice when you step up your enthusiasm in the game,
even if you are sitting on the bench.
Finally one last piece of advice I have for you is to be
supportive of the Novi Athletics Program as a whole.
Whenever you can you should try to go to games for other
sports to show your support of the Novi High School
Wildcats. Doing this will allow you to not only have fun and
watch your friends and fellow classmates play and compete in
their favorite sport, it will allow you to show your pride
in the school we attend.
Now, take my advise for what it worth, but never forget
that showing school spirit is always fun, whether it is
during the school week at a club meeting or at a game. And
remember, GO WILDCATS! |
